Jason Rekulak was born and raised in New Jersey, where books, comics, and early computer culture shaped him at the same time. As a child he became a devoted library user, and as a teenager he taught himself programming while also writing and drawing stories. At Penn State, he initially leaned toward computer science, then changed direction after a writing elective led him toward English; his first two years were spent at Penn State Schuylkill before he completed the 2+2 path at University Park. After college he moved into publishing, working first at St. Martin’s Press and Quality Paperback Book Club before settling in Philadelphia and joining the young independent house Quirk Books, where he would eventually become publisher.
