Anne Helen Petersen is an American journalist and author who writes about work culture, burnout, celebrity, and millennial life. A former BuzzFeed culture writer, she is known for the newsletter Culture Study and books including Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud, Can’t Even, and Out of Office.
Anne Helen Petersen grew up in Lewiston, Idaho, and built an academic foundation before becoming a widely read public critic. She earned a B.A. in rhetoric and film studies from Whitman College in 2003, an M.A. in English from the University of Oregon in 2007, and a Ph.D. in media studies from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011, where she researched the history of the gossip industry. That training gave her a durable method: to treat celebrity, media, and everyday habits not as trivia but as evidence of how power and ideology circulate through ordinary life.
