Albert Ellis

出生: September 27, 1913 – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States

Albert Ellis was an American psychologist and psychotherapist who pioneered Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, a foundation of modern cognitive-behavioral therapy. His books include A Guide to Rational Living and How to Stubbornly Refuse to Make Yourself Miserable About Anything—Yes, Anything!. He wrote more than 75 books and influenced psychotherapy worldwide.

传记与作者历程

Albert Ellis was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on September 27, 1913, and grew up largely in New York City, where an often difficult childhood and repeated hospital stays encouraged habits of self-reliance and reflection. He first studied business at the City College of New York, graduating in 1934, and spent several years trying to build a career in business and writing before turning decisively toward psychology. He later earned graduate degrees at Columbia University, including a doctorate in clinical psychology, entering the field at a time when psychoanalysis was the dominant model. That early training gave him technical grounding, but it also set up the central break that would define his career.
