Alma taught that feeling "down" can be a blessing when it leads to humility before the Lord. He explained to the poor Zoramites, cast out of synagogues due to their poverty, that being "lowly in heart" is blessed because it can lead to repentance and mercy. This isn't self-loathing but rather a divine discontent that beckons us toward Christ.
