From a young age, Hoover harbored a desire to become a writer, even penning her first story at the age of five. Despite her early ambitions, real-life challenges—including a turbulent family life and financial hardship—led her to pursue a practical path. She graduated with a degree in social work from Texas A&M University–Commerce and married her high school sweetheart, Heath Hoover, in 2000. The couple raised three sons while living in a trailer home, experiencing the ups and downs of modest rural life.
