Ally Condie is an American author of young adult and middle grade fiction, best known for the dystopian Matched trilogy and novels including Summerlost and Atlantia. A New York Times bestselling writer, she explores identity, choice, memory, and adolescence, and her work has reached a broad international readership.
Ally Condie grew up in Cedar City, Utah, where southern Utah’s parks, the local Shakespeare culture, and an early habit of inventing stories helped shape her imagination. Before she could write, she dictated stories to a babysitter; later she earned a B.A. in English Teaching from Brigham Young University, taught high school English in Utah and upstate New York, and eventually completed an M.F.A. in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Those experiences gave her both a feel for adolescent voices and a lasting commitment to teaching.
