Le paradoxe réside dans la tension historique entre la sacralisation de la nature sauvage et son exploitation industrielle massive. D'un côté, les États-Unis ont inventé le concept de parc national avec Yellowstone et Yosemite, portés par une vision mystique de la nature "cathédrale".
