While current chemical rockets would take tens of thousands of years to reach the nearest star system, an antimatter-powered "beam-core" rocket could theoretically reach ten to forty percent of the speed of light. This would allow humans to reach other solar systems within decades rather than millennia, effectively breaking the "tyranny of the rocket equation."
