Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie é o aclamado romancista britânico-indiano por trás de Os Versículos Satânicos e um mestre do realismo mágico e da ficção histórica. Nascido em Mumbai em 1947 e educado na Universidade de Cambridge, Rushdie explora as conexões entre as civilizações oriental e ocidental através de narrativas alegóricas e contação de histórias surrealistas.

Os Versículos Satânicos, seu quarto romance publicado em 1988, combina investigação filosófica com realismo mágico e venceu o prêmio Whitbread. No entanto, sua representação controversa de temas religiosos desencadeou um debate global e levou a uma fatwa que forçou Rushdie a viver escondido por anos.
