What becomes meaningful to us is only a subset of what could be meaningful. While different people find different pursuits meaningful, two categories often impart worth to many lives: helping others and avoiding suffering while increasing pleasure in one's own life. Many people don't work hard enough to prevent suffering or enjoy pleasures-from bodily pleasures like food and sleep to aesthetic enjoyments like films and music. Most people need to periodically reassess what maintains or increases meaning in their lives.
