Nascida na Jamaica em 1972 e criada no Brooklyn, Yoon foi inspirada a escrever esta estreia após o nascimento de sua filha birracial, querendo criar protagonistas que refletissem a diversidade de sua família.

Antes de escrever em tempo integral, Yoon estudou engenharia elétrica na Cornell University e trabalhou como programadora financeira por 20 anos. Seu segundo romance, O Sol Também é uma Estrela, tornou-se finalista do National Book Award e também foi adaptado para o cinema. Ela co-publica a Joy Revolution, um selo da Random House dedicado a histórias de amor protagonizadas por pessoas de cor.

Tudo e Todas as Coisas passou 40 semanas na lista de best-sellers, foi adaptado para um filme de 2017 estrelado por Amandla Stenberg e foi nomeado pela Time Magazine como um dos 100 Melhores Livros Jovem Adultos de Todos os Tempos.
