Douglas Murray was born in 1979 and came through a mixed educational path that he has described as formative: local state schools, a smaller independent school reached through music, a sixth-form scholarship to Eton, and then Oxford. His debut book, Bosie, a biography of Lord Alfred Douglas, was published in 2000 while he was still an undergraduate, giving him an immediate literary reputation and later earning the 2001 Lambda award for gay biography.
