The Open Championship, often referred to as the British Open, began in 1860 at the Prestwick Golf Club on the west coast of Scotland. Unlike the modern major with its global TV coverage and millions in prize money, the inaugural tournament featured only eight players. These competitors were not playing for a trophy like the Claret Jug initially, but rather for a piece of leather, marking a humble start for what would become golf's world championship.
Allan Robertson was a dominant clubmaker and professional from St Andrews who was considered the undisputed king of golf during his era. He was so skilled that he was occasionally banned from competitions because he was deemed too good to play against. His sudden death in 1859 at the age of forty-three created a massive vacuum in the sport, leaving the golfing world without a clear champion and prompting the creation of a new tournament to find his successor.
While many modern fans associate major championship golf with St Andrews, the first Open Championship was organized by the members of the Prestwick Golf Club. Following the death of Allan Robertson, the club members decided they needed a formal way to settle who would be the next Champion Golfer. This decision in 1860 established Prestwick as the birthplace of the tournament, filling the leadership void left in the professional golfing community.

I love the fact that I can get useful, condensed, information and ideas in a 8 - 15 minute podcast style audio. I'm not a general fan of podcasts because of all the fluff, but this cuts through all that.

I am finishing up my doctorate, and have to read a lot of unfamiliar material... With BeFreed, you simply enter a prompt, and the app finds source material for you and generates an audio podcast. I find the process in BeFreed to be more streamlined than NotebookLM.
