Lena: Hey everyone, welcome to today's episode! I was thinking about something on my drive over here... have you ever wondered what happens after we die? It's one of those universal questions that keeps people up at night.
Eli: Oh absolutely. It's fascinating how across 35 countries surveyed, most people believe there is something after death. In fact, according to that Pew Research data, a median of more than half of adults believe in life after death, ranging from 85% in Indonesia to just 38% in Sweden.
Lena: That's a huge range! You know what surprised me? Even among people who don't identify with any religion, there's still significant belief in an afterlife. In Peru, nearly two-thirds of religiously unaffiliated people believe there's something after we die.
Eli: Right, and what's really interesting is how these beliefs vary across different religious traditions. Near-death experiences have become particularly compelling for many people. Some researchers argue they provide evidence that consciousness can exist outside the physical body.
Lena: I've heard about those! People reporting similar experiences—floating above their bodies, moving through tunnels toward light, meeting deceased relatives. It's pretty mind-blowing that blind people who have NDEs sometimes report being able to see for the first time.
Eli: Exactly. And as Deepak Chopra points out, the real mystery centers around consciousness itself. If consciousness has no beginning, does it truly have an end? Let's explore what different religious and philosophical traditions tell us about what awaits us on the other side.
