Explore how digital intimidation and social media tactics are used to mask physical threats and manipulate perception in this episode of The Digital Mask of Intimidation.

Recognizing that the 'nice' comment and the weapon come from the same ego-driven place is the first step in stopping the 'fall.' One uses fear, the other uses a false sense of connection, but the hand holding the tool is the same.
I’m having a hard time understanding something. This guy wants to try to act from his ego and take a gun out because he wanted what I was creating and sometimes on Instagram he makes it look like he’s interested in me and seeing nice things, but I know the facts and I know that he will try to intimidate me with a gun and since that didn’t work, he created Darbo and he also had girls that were unconscious working up against me and people know that they are fake already, but sometimes I fall

The digital mask of intimidation refers to the jarring disconnect created when an aggressor uses social media to present a normal or friendly persona while simultaneously threatening an individual's physical safety. This tactic involves using platforms like Instagram to project interest or normalcy, which serves to mask overt acts of violence and psychological manipulation. By operating in both the physical and digital worlds, the aggressor attempts to drain the victim's energy and complicate their sense of reality.
Psychological tactics overlap with social media when an aggressor uses covert manipulation, such as creating fake personas or engaging with a victim's feed, to scramble their internal compass. This sophisticated form of manipulation often follows life-altering events, such as threats involving a firearm. By appearing 'interested' online after committing an act of violence, the aggressor forces the victim to second-guess known facts, effectively using digital tools to facilitate gaslighting and psychological exhaustion.
Victims often doubt their perception because of the sophisticated mix of overt violence and covert psychological tactics used by the aggressor. When someone who has threatened your safety with a weapon suddenly appears as a benign notification on your phone, it creates a glitch in reality. This intentional strategy is designed to make the victim second-guess the facts of the physical threat, leading to a sense of 'falling' and significant emotional drainage as they navigate these two conflicting worlds.
