    This technique provides a structured way to discuss sensitive topics without falling into defensiveness. The "Speaker" uses "I" statements to express feelings and needs, while the "Listener" is forbidden from interrupting or defending themselves; instead, the Listener must reflect back what they heard to ensure the Speaker feels genuinely understood.
