    Eli : Justement, c'est le premier piège. Si on regarde les chiffres, entre le 15e et le 19e siècle, l'Europe a traversé ce qu'on appelle le Petit Âge Glaciaire. On a perdu environ 1°C en moyenne, ce qui paraît peu, mais ça a suffi à faire avancer les glaciers et à provoquer des hivers neigeux interminables. Figure-toi qu'en 1709-1710, le "Grand hiver" a causé 600 000 morts rien qu'en France.

    Blythe : Ah ouais quand même... Donc l'idée que les sociétés ont toujours vécu dans un climat stable, c'est totalement faux.

    Eli : C'est ça. On a eu des ruptures énormes. Avant ce froid, entre le 10e et le 14e siècle, il y a eu l'Optimum Médiéval. C'était l'inverse : il faisait tellement bon que les Vikings ont pu coloniser le Groenland. Mais aujourd'hui, on a changé d'échelle avec l'Anthropocène. On est passés d'une variabilité naturelle à une ère où c'est l'activité humaine qui transforme carrément la géologie de la planète.
