Robert I. Sutton

Robert I. Sutton is an organizational psychologist and professor emeritus at Stanford University, recognized for his research on leadership, innovation, and workplace dynamics. He is the best-selling author of books including The No Asshole Rule, which sold over 900,000 copies and was translated into more than 20 languages, and has significantly influenced evidence-based management thinking.

Biografia e Percorso dell'Autore

Robert I. Sutton was born and raised in the United States, developing an intellectual curiosity early in life that led him to the University of Michigan, where he earned a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology. His academic journey found a permanent home at Stanford University, where he has served since 1983, initially as Professor of Management Science & Engineering and, as of 2023, Professor Emeritus. Sutton’s formative years were marked not just by disciplinary excellence, but by an eagerness to explore the intersection of theory and real-world organizational dynamics, which would become a hallmark of his career.

If you are a boss, ask yourself: When you look back at how you’ve treated followers, peers, and superiors, in their eyes, will you have earned the right to be proud of yourself? Or will they believe that you ought to be ashamed of yourself and embarrassed by how you have trampled on others’ dignity day after day?
-Good Boss, Bad Boss

As much as I believe in tolerance and fairness, I have never lost a wink of sleep about being unapologetically intolerant of anyone who refuses to show respect for those around them
