This leads to the leader building a demanding job for themselves rather than a scalable ministry, often resulting in burnout because they are stuck working "in" the ministry rather than "on" it.

According to the script, every leader possesses three internal personalities: the Entrepreneur, the Manager, and the Technician. The Entrepreneur is the visionary who dreams about the future and reaching the entire campus. The Technician is the "doer" who loves the hands-on work of disciple-making and teaching. Most leaders are 70% Technician, which limits growth; to succeed, a leader must shift toward the Entrepreneur and Manager roles to build a system that functions beyond their personal energy.

What is a "Franchise Prototype" in a ministry context?

A Franchise Prototype is a "turnkey" model of ministry that is systems-dependent rather than people-dependent. It involves creating a "Ministry Playbook" or "Operations Manual" that documents exactly how tasks—such as fall outreach or small group training—are performed. The goal is to create a consistent, repeatable process so that the ministry’s success does not rely on a single "superstar" leader or "linchpin." This allows the ministry to be replicated or scaled because any trained person can follow the established system to achieve a predictable, excellent result.

How do Innovation, Quantification, and Orchestration work together?

These three steps form the engine of ministry development. Innovation is the process of asking "What is the best way to do this?" from the student’s perspective and trying new methods. Quantification involves tracking data and numbers to see if the innovation actually worked—such as measuring if a new welcome speech increased student retention. Finally, Orchestration is the documentation of the "best way" into a standard procedure. Once a process is orchestrated, it eliminates the need for "winging it" and ensures the ministry runs smoothly and consistently every time.

Why should a ministry organize around roles instead of personalities?

Organizing around personalities—such as "Sarah handles the website because she’s good at it"—creates a hole in the organization when that specific person leaves. Instead, leaders should build an organizational chart based on the functions the ministry needs to reach its full potential. By defining roles and accountabilities first, a leader can "prototype" a position, create a manual for it, and then hire or recruit a "novice" to run that system.
