Jean Baudrillard (1929–2007) fue un innovador sociólogo y filósofo francés cuya influyente obra Cultura y simulacro consolidó su reputación como un crítico visionario de la cultura posmoderna y la hiperrealidad. Profesor de la Universidad de París, Baudrillard se involucró inicialmente con la teoría marxista en obras como El sistema de los objetos y La sociedad de consumo antes de ser pionero en sus conceptos distintivos de simulacro e intercambio simbólico.

Sus provocadores análisis de las sociedades saturadas por los medios, articulados en éxitos de ventas como América y La Guerra del Golfo no ha tenido lugar, desafían las comprensiones convencionales de la realidad y la representación.
