Their journey takes an unexpected turn when they encounter Mr. Weasley's enchanted Ford Anglia, now living wild in the woods like a feral animal. Before they can process this bizarre reunion, giant spiders the size of carthorses emerge from the trees and capture them, carrying them to a hollow filled with hundreds more enormous arachnids. There they meet Aragog, an ancient, blind spider the size of a small elephant - the creature Hagrid was raising fifty years ago when Tom Riddle accused him of opening the Chamber. Speaking in a clicking voice, Aragog reveals crucial information: he was the creature Hagrid was accused of releasing, but he insists he never attacked anyone. The girl who died was found in a bathroom, while Aragog never left his cupboard. Most importantly, he explains there's another creature in the castle that spiders fear above all others, though he refuses to name it. Despite their connection to Hagrid, whom Aragog calls "a good friend," the ancient spider allows his children to attack the boys, considering them "fresh meat." At the last moment, the Weasleys' enchanted car rescues them, driving them safely back to the castle grounds with its headlights blazing and engine roaring. Though traumatized by their close encounter with hundreds of giant spiders (particularly Ron, who suffers from arachnophobia), they've learned vital information: Hagrid was innocent of opening the Chamber fifty years ago, and the monster is something that terrifies even acromantulas. Riddle reveals himself as Lord Voldemort, the true Heir of Slytherin who originally opened the Chamber and framed Hagrid. He had possessed Ginny through his diary, forcing her to release the basilisk - a deadly serpent that kills with its direct gaze and petrifies through indirect sight - which moved through the school's plumbing system. In the final confrontation, Fawkes the phoenix brings the Sorting Hat, from which Harry draws Gryffindor's sword. After Fawkes blinds the basilisk, Harry slays it but is wounded by its venomous fang. Fawkes's healing tears save Harry, who then destroys Riddle's diary with the basilisk fang, freeing Ginny. This battle proves Harry's worth not through magical power but through courage and loyalty.
