Imagine a world where stories aren't just told but exist as colorful liquid streams you can touch and taste. This is the magical realm of "Haroun and the Sea of Stories," where Salman Rushdie crafts a modern fairy tale about the power of imagination. In the sad city of Alifbay lives Haroun Khalifa, son of the legendary storyteller Rashid-known throughout the land as the "Ocean of Notions" and the "Shah of Blah." Whenever Haroun asks where his father's endless stories come from, Rashid mentions drinking from "the great Story Sea" through an "invisible Tap installed by Water Genies." Their modest but happy life shatters when Haroun's mother abandons them for their neighbor, Mr. Sengupta-a thin, complaining man who constantly questioned: "What's the use of stories that aren't even true?" Following this betrayal, Haroun develops a peculiar concentration problem, unable to focus for more than eleven minutes, and more tragically, Rashid loses his magical storytelling ability completely. When Rashid can only produce crow-like sounds at a political rally, Haroun resolves to somehow restore what has been lost.
