Naomi Klein, born in Montreal in 1970 to American parents who relocated to Canada to protest the Vietnam War, grew up in a family deeply influenced by activism and creative expression. Her mother, Bonnie Klein, is a renowned feminist filmmaker, and the family’s values shaped Klein’s early awareness of social and political issues. After studying philosophy and literature at the University of Toronto, Klein left before graduating to begin her career in journalism at The Globe and Mail, an early turning point that set her on a path of public critique and analysis.
