Born in 1955 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Grisham practiced criminal law for nearly a decade before turning to fiction full-time after the breakout success of The Firm in 1991. The Pelican Brief showcases his signature blend of legal intrigue, political conspiracy, and page-turning suspense—themes rooted in his firsthand understanding of the American justice system.

Beyond The Pelican Brief, Grisham has written over 50 consecutive number-one bestsellers, including A Time to Kill, The Client, The Rainmaker, and The Testament.
