Winston Churchill was born on November 30, 1874, at Blenheim Palace into an aristocratic and political family, the son of Lord Randolph Churchill and Jennie Jerome. His early years were marked by distance from his parents, uneven school performance, and a growing determination to distinguish himself through action. After Harrow, he entered the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, and was commissioned into the cavalry. His education was less conventionally scholarly than experiential: military service in India and Sudan, travel, and close observation of imperial politics gave him both subject matter and discipline. From the start, he paired public life with authorship, treating writing not as a side pursuit but as a parallel career.
