Roald Dahl

Nascido: September 13, 1916 – Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom

Roald Dahl was a British author and screenwriter known for children’s fiction and macabre short stories. His best-known books include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, and The BFG. His work has sold more than 300 million copies worldwide and been widely adapted for film and stage.

Biografia e Jornada do Autor

Roald Dahl was born on September 13, 1916, in Llandaff, Wales, to Norwegian parents, and his early life combined privilege, loss, and strict schooling in ways that later shaped his fiction. After the death of his father and sister when he was very young, he was raised by his mother, Sofie, who kept the family in Britain rather than returning to Norway. Dahl attended Llandaff Cathedral School, St Peter’s in Weston-super-Mare, and later Repton, where harsh discipline, homesickness, and vivid schoolboy observation furnished material he would later rework in memoir and fiction. He did not attend university. Instead, he joined Shell and was posted to East Africa, a formative experience that broadened his sense of place and adventure.
