Biography & Author's Journey
Penelope Douglas emerged from a quieter life than her fiction might suggest. In her own account, she was a shy adolescent who later decided to stop living cautiously, leaving home, traveling, climbing Mount Fuji, and moving to New Orleans for graduate school. She earned a BA in Public Administration from the University of Northern Iowa and a master’s in education from Loyola University New Orleans, then spent eight years teaching. That background helps explain why her fiction so often returns to first freedoms, social pressure, and the emotional volatility of early adulthood.
