Kevin J. Mitchell is an Irish neuroscientist and geneticist whose career as an author grew directly out of a long effort to connect laboratory science with larger questions about mind, behavior, and human agency. Educated first at Trinity College Dublin, where he graduated in genetics in 1991, he went on to earn a Ph.D. in neurobiology at the University of California, Berkeley in 1997, studying nervous-system development with Corey Goodman. After postdoctoral research at Berkeley, UCSF, and Stanford, he joined the faculty of Trinity College Dublin in 2002 and later served in senior academic leadership roles there, including Associate Dean of Undergraduate Science Education and Dean of Undergraduate Studies.
