Born: January 06, 1971 – Covington, Georgia, United States
Karin Slaughter is an American crime and thriller novelist whose work centers on violence, trauma, investigation, and justice. She is best known for the Grant County and Will Trent series and the standalone novel Pretty Girls. Her books have sold over 40 million copies worldwide and been translated into multiple languages.
Karin Slaughter was born in Covington, Georgia, on January 6, 1971, and grew up in Jonesboro’s Lake Spivey area, where libraries, local history, and storytelling became early fixtures in her life. She graduated from Morrow High School, attended Georgia State University, and worked a range of jobs, including design and sales for a sign company, before opening her own sign business. Long before publication, she was writing: according to Georgia Center for the Book, she drafted her first book at six, and she has credited both her father’s gift for stories and a ninth-grade teacher, Billie Bennett Ward, with convincing her that writing could become a serious craft.
