Biography & Author's Journey

James Norbert Frey, born in Syracuse, New York, on March 15, 1943, built his career in two overlapping phases: first as a novelist, then as a widely read teacher of fiction craft. Public biographies credit him with nine novels and note titles such as The Elixir, U.S.S.A., The Long Way to Die, and Winter of the Wolves. The Long Way to Die was nominated for an Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America, and Winter of the Wolves became a Literary Guild Selection. Alongside the fiction, he developed a strong reputation as an instructor, leading the Open Workshop at the Squaw Valley Community of Writers for more than a decade and lecturing at schools, conferences, and workshops in the United States and Europe.
