Nascido: August 13, 1982 – New York City, New York, United States
Ibram X. Kendi is an American historian and public intellectual whose work examines racism, antiracism, and policy in the United States. He is best known for Stamped from the Beginning and How to Be an Antiracist; Stamped from the Beginning won the National Book Award for Nonfiction, helping expand his influence in public debate.
Born in 1982 to parents shaped by activist Christianity, Black liberation theology, and the afterlife of the Black Power era, Ibram X. Kendi spent his childhood in Jamaica, Queens, before his family moved in his high-school years to Manassas, Virginia. He entered Florida A&M University planning on a career in sports journalism, freelanced for Florida newspapers, and interned with USA Today Sports Weekly as well as newspaper sports desks in Mobile and Atlanta. That path shifted as he became more committed to racial-justice scholarship; he added African American studies to journalism, graduated in 2004, and completed a doctorate in African American studies at Temple University in 2010.
