Dan Harris is an American journalist and nonfiction author focused on meditation, mindfulness, stress, and mental health. Best known for the #1 New York Times bestseller 10% Happier and Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics, he expanded his reach through the popular 10% Happier podcast and meditation app.
Dan Harris built his public life first as a television journalist and only later as a writer and meditation advocate. Raised in Newton, Massachusetts, he graduated from Colby College and started in local television in Maine, working at WLBZ and WCSH before moving to New England Cable News and then ABC News in 2000. At ABC he reported from major domestic and international stories, including Ground Zero, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Israel, Gaza, the West Bank, and Iraq. Over time he became a familiar on-air presence across the network, including roles at Nightline and the weekend editions of Good Morning America.
