Lois Lowry is an American author of children’s and young adult fiction known for exploring memory, loss, identity, and moral choice. Her notable books include The Giver and Number the Stars. She has written more than 50 books and won two Newbery Medals, a rare distinction in children’s literature.

传记与作者历程

Lois Lowry was born on March 20, 1937, in Honolulu, the middle of three children in a family shaped by military movement and books. Her father was an Army dentist, so her childhood stretched across New York, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and Tokyo, experiences that later gave her fiction an unusual mix of dislocation, observation, and historical awareness. She entered Brown University in 1954, left after her sophomore year to marry a naval officer, and spent her early adult life raising four children while moving from state to state. A decisive turning point came when she returned to school in Maine, earned a degree in English literature from the University of Southern Maine in 1972, worked as a freelance journalist, and finally moved toward the profession she had imagined since childhood. The death of her sister Helen became the emotional source for her first novel, A Summer to Die, published in 1977. ((https://www.britannica.com/biography/Lois-Lowry))
