The Mars, also known as the Makalös or 'Matchless,' was a massive Swedish warship built in the mid-1500s. It was considered a floating fortress and a symbol of power, representing a significant escalation in the Northern European naval arms race. Named after the god of war, this vessel was so advanced for its time that it fundamentally changed the way naval warfare functioned before its sudden destruction in 1564.
Despite its intimidating status, the Mars did not survive its first major engagement in 1564. The ship met a cinematic and violent end when it went down in a massive ball of fire.
