La Llama Impercedera es el poder creativo exclusivo de Eru Ilúvatar, el Creador. A diferencia de los Ainur, que solo pueden proponer temas musicales o diseñar planos arquitectónicos a través de la música, la Llama es lo que otorga "ser" y existencia física a esos pensamientos. Es el motor de la existencia que permitió que el plano ideal de la Ainulindalë se proyectara hacia afuera para convertirse en Eä, el universo físico o "el Mundo que Es".
Melkor no pudo crear materia nueva ni encontrar la Llama Impercedera, por lo que dedicó su poder a corromper la ya existente. Esta distorsión metafísica, conocida como el "Anillo de Morgoth", implica que Melkor disipó su propia esencia en los átomos de Arda. Como resultado, el mal no es solo un concepto moral, sino una fuerza física que introdujo la entropía, el frío extremo, el calor sofocante y la degradación en la naturaleza misma del mundo.
La distinción radica en la relación entre el fëa (alma) y el hröa (cuerpo).
