Leo Tolstoy

Дата рождения: September 09, 1828 – Yasnaya Polyana, Tula Governorate, Russian Empire

Leo Tolstoy was a Russian novelist and moral philosopher whose work explored war, family, faith, and social conscience. He is best known for War and Peace and Anna Karenina, novels widely regarded as literary landmarks and translated worldwide. His fiction and later religious writings profoundly influenced literature, pacifism, and political thought.

Биография и Путь Автора

Leo Tolstoy was born in 1828 at Yasnaya Polyana, the family estate south of Moscow, into the Russian nobility. Orphaned young, he grew up amid privilege, instability, and intense self-scrutiny, habits that later shaped both his fiction and his moral writing. He enrolled at Kazan University to study Oriental languages and then law, but left without a degree, dissatisfied with formal education and his own lack of discipline. A decisive turn came when he joined the army in the Caucasus and later served during the Crimean War. Those experiences supplied the material for his early autobiographical fiction and the Sevastopol Sketches, works that established him as a serious young writer with an unusual eye for psychological detail and the ordinary realities of war.
