    La conformidad normativa ocurre cuando una persona cambia su comportamiento o se adhiere a una opinión grupal simplemente para encajar, evitar el rechazo social o mantener la armonía, incluso si sabe que el grupo está equivocado. Por otro lado, la conformidad informativa sucede cuando un individuo copia a los demás porque realmente cree que el grupo posee mejor información o conocimientos que él mismo, utilizando a la multitud como una guía de orientación en situaciones de incertidumbre.

    El experimento de Asch demostró que el miedo a sobresalir es más potente que la propia percepción de la realidad. En el estudio, casi el 75 % de los participantes aceptaron una respuesta visualmente errónea al menos una vez solo porque el resto del grupo (actores) sostenía esa mentira. Sin embargo, el experimento también reveló un dato esperanzador: si una sola persona rompía la unanimidad y decía la verdad, el participante se sentía liberado de la presión y recuperaba su propio criterio.

    El pensamiento grupal es un fenómeno que ocurre en equipos muy unidos donde el deseo de mantener la cohesión y la paz interna supera la evaluación crítica de los hechos. Esto genera una "ilusión de invulnerabilidad" y provoca que los miembros se autocensuren para no ser vistos como "aguafiestas". Históricamente, este fenómeno ha llevado a decisiones catastróficas, como el lanzamiento del transbordador Challenger o la invasión de Bahía de Cochinos, porque nadie se atrevió a cuestionar la dirección del líder o del grupo.

    Las redes sociales actúan como un experimento de conformidad a escala global, donde el rechazo digital activa las mismas áreas de dolor físico en el cerebro que el rechazo real. Los algoritmos crean "cámaras de eco" que solo nos muestran opiniones similares a las nuestras, fomentando una "pasividad mental" y el miedo a la cancelación. Esto empuja a los usuarios a publicar contenido solo para obtener validación o a repetir eslóganes de su "tribu" digital para no ser excluidos.

    Una estrategia efectiva es la asertividad mediante la técnica del "disco rayado", que consiste en repetir una postura con calma y firmeza sin necesidad de dar explicaciones extensas. También se recomienda hablar desde el "Yo" (por ejemplo, "me siento incómodo cuando se asume que todos pensamos igual") en lugar de atacar al grupo. Finalmente, es vital diversificar las fuentes de información y rodearse de personas que valoren la diversidad de pensamiento en lugar de buscar amigos que funcionen como simples "espejos".
