Rebecca Yarros is an American novelist who writes contemporary romance, military romance, and romantasy. She is best known for Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and In the Likely Event, and is a No. 1 New York Times bestselling author whose Empyrean series helped drive major mainstream interest in romantasy.

Rebecca Yarros was born in Washington, D.C., in 1981 and grew up in a military family that moved often; both parents served as lieutenant colonels in the U.S. Army. That upbringing, combined with later life as the wife of an Army aviator, gave her fiction its recurring vocabulary of duty, separation, risk, and chosen family. She attended the University of Colorado on a vocal scholarship, later completed online studies in history and English at Troy University in 2008, and has said that she began writing in earnest during her husband’s deployment to Afghanistan, drafting pages at night when she could not sleep.
