The Dance Between Mind and Matter: Exploring Consciousness at the Edge of Physics
When Itzhak Bentov's friends finally convinced him to share his living room discussions with the world, few could have predicted the impact this "fairly stupid fellow" (as he humbly described himself) would have on our understanding of consciousness and reality. Despite being expelled from kindergarten at age four and lacking formal education, Bentov's "Stalking the Wild Pendulum" has become a cornerstone text bridging quantum physics and spirituality. This unassuming inventor, whose whimsical nature was revealed by the "Winnie the Pooh" book nestled among technical tomes on his shelves, created a revolutionary framework for understanding consciousness that continues to influence scientists, meditators, and spiritual seekers decades after its publication. The book's enduring appeal stems from its remarkable ability to explain complex metaphysical concepts using simple analogies and diagrams, making the ineffable tangible for readers across disciplines.

The Vibratory Nature of Reality: Sound, Waves, and Consciousness
Everything around us-and within us-vibrates. From the seemingly solid matter of our bodies to the vast expanses of space, reality consists of oscillating fields moving between states of rest. Sound provides our primary means of communication, but even our slightest movements disturb the air, creating waves that extend far beyond our perception. When we close an electrical switch, we simultaneously generate current flow, magnetic fields that expand at light speed to infinity, heat that creates sound waves, and even gravitational waves. Our smallest actions broadcast influence across vast distances.
These vibrations create fascinating patterns. Standing waves form when a vibrating medium divides into integral numbers of half-wavelengths, creating stable patterns with fixed nodes (points of rest) while other areas vibrate. Sprinkle sand on a metal sheet and vibrate it with a violin bow, and you'll see beautiful symmetrical patterns emerge as particles migrate to these quiescent nodes.
When waves interact, they create interference patterns. Drop three pebbles simultaneously into a shallow pan of water, and you'll observe expanding ripples crossing and interacting. This apparent chaos actually contains perfect order-each wavelet can be traced back to its source. If we could freeze this pattern, we'd create a physical record of these interactions-essentially a hologram.
The holographic principle reveals a fundamental truth about nature's information storage: the whole is encoded in every part. Break a hologram, and each fragment still projects the complete image. This mirrors how our consciousness works-each part contains information about the whole.
Our bodies themselves are oscillators, vibrating in regular patterns. The heart creates powerful vibrations that shake our entire body, gently rocking the brain in its fluid cushion. When breathing stops momentarily, something remarkable happens-the heart-aorta system becomes resonant, with the aorta forming exactly half a wavelength. The heart begins ejecting blood only when the previous pulse's echo returns, creating a harmonious sine-wave pattern with triple the normal amplitude while requiring minimal energy.
Nature favors synchronization over chaos. When two oscillators share identical natural frequencies, they form a resonant system with optimal energy transfer. Two tuned violins demonstrate this: play one, and the matching string on the nearby violin will vibrate sympathetically. Similarly, pendulum clocks hung on the same wall will synchronize their movements within days, regardless of their starting positions.
Our entire reality is fundamentally vibratory-from rapidly vibrating atomic nuclei to planetary orbits. Our thinking produces rhythmic electric currents that spread into space at light speed, mingling with heart-generated waves to form enormous interference patterns radiating from our planet. We can only appreciate the differences between these various "sounds" as our senses compare one vibration with another.

The Illusion of Solidity: Matter as Vibrating Emptiness
Take an imaginary journey through a super-powerful microscope, and you'll discover the true nature of our seemingly solid reality. What appears as "gooey" muscle tissue at low magnification transforms into highly organized, crystalline structures at higher magnification. Molecules vibrate in orderly patterns millions of times per second, responsive to magnetic and electric fields that alter their undulations.
As magnification increases further, solid matter dissolves into vast empty space. The nucleus of a hydrogen atom is to its electron orbit as 1mm is to 10 meters-a ratio of 1:10,000-with vacuum between. At the highest magnification, even the nucleus dissolves into pulsating energy fields. Our solid reality is revealed as vast empty space filled with oscillating, interlocked fields, each pulsating harmoniously with others, their vibrations extending throughout the cosmos.
Our bodies interact with numerous energy fields: the electromagnetic and electrostatic fields that hold our atoms together; the isoelectric static field of the planet; our body-generated electrostatic fields; Earth's magnetic field; the electromagnetic spectrum from slow atmospheric waves through visible light to ultraviolet and beyond; gravitational fields from Earth, moon, planets and sun; and human-created electromagnetic broadcast fields.
The ionosphere, starting 80km above Earth, forms a capacitor with our planet, creating a 200 volts per meter potential difference that behaves like a rigid "jelly" transmitting vibrations between all bodies. Our living bodies generate measurable electrostatic fields that couple with this planetary field, allowing our bodily movements to transmit weak signals throughout the planet.
Through meditation, we can extend the body's harmonious resonant state. As one becomes proficient, breathing becomes so gentle it doesn't disturb the aorta's resonance. An automatic process develops where lungs and diaphragm regulate the heart-aorta system, keeping them well-tuned despite shallow breathing. This resonance extends throughout the body-skeleton and organs moving coherently at about 7 cycles per second, the body's natural frequency.

The Morse Code of Perception: How We Translate Reality
Our physical bodies consist of electromagnetic fields vibrating at tremendous frequencies-atoms vibrating at 10^15 Hz and atomic nuclei at 10^22 Hz. Nature had to develop sensory organs that could translate this frenetic activity into something comprehensible to our slow minds, stepping down these inconceivably fast rates into a manageable code.
Our sensory system consists of specialized nerve cells connected by long filaments that bundle together, forming the spinal cord and extending to different brain areas. Unstimulated sensory nerve cells emit sparse, irregular electrical pulses. When stimulated, they fire rapid salvos of closely spaced spikes, with frequency proportional to stimulus strength. This pattern applies across all senses-visual, auditory, tactile-translating surrounding reality into a Morse code language of action and rest. From this binary code, our brain constructs complete sensory experiences.
Nature operates through two fundamental motions: circular spin and reciprocating vibration. At the atomic level, electrons orbit nuclei while spinning on their axes, and atoms vibrate within crystal lattices. In large molecules, atoms are fixed while free branches exhibit pendulum-like movements. Throughout the animal kingdom, from plankton to elephants to humans, reciprocating motion dominates-we are confined to pendulum-like oscillations with almost no spin in our living structures.
The pendulum's seemingly simple motion reveals profound insights when closely examined. At its turning point, the pendulum slows to zero velocity while reaching maximum potential energy and acceleration. But quantum mechanics shows that when distances become extremely small, causal relationships break down and movements become jerky rather than smooth. At the pendulum's point of rest, with zero velocity and thus zero momentum, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle dictates that its position becomes completely indefinite-it could theoretically be anywhere in the universe. For an infinitesimal moment, the pendulum must expand outward in all directions at infinite velocity before collapsing back and continuing its swing.
Both our objective and subjective realities share a common foundation: they become "real" only through change or motion occurring between states of rest. Our objective reality consists of vacuum filled with oscillating electromagnetic fields moving between points of rest, while our subjective reality comprises nervous system impressions that translate external stimuli into a Morse code of action and rest. Without change or movement, there is no perceptible reality.

Time Distortion and the Nature of Consciousness
When trained in biofeedback or deep meditation, a person watching a clock's second hand may see it stop completely-an effect that persists until shock breaks the meditative state. Anyone can experience this through a simple visualization exercise: relax while watching a clock's second hand, then close your eyes and fully immerse yourself in imagining your favorite activity using all senses. When you partially open your eyes without focusing directly on the watch, the second hand appears to slow or stop entirely.
This occurs because the "observer"-the entity that correlates sensory information-has temporarily left the body. Like a pendulum at its extreme position where causal relationships break down, this observer can move at seemingly infinite speeds between locations, suggesting it exists beyond normal physical limitations. This parallels the concept of tachyons-theoretical particles moving faster than light-where extreme speed approaches omnipresence.
Omnipresence emerges from extreme speed. Consider how supersonic planes cross the Atlantic in 90 minutes and astronauts in 15 minutes. If a vehicle could shuttle between New York and London in half a minute, you'd essentially be in both places simultaneously. At light speed, circling Earth seven times per second, you'd form a "shell of presence" around the planet. At near-infinite speeds, you could weave throughout the solar system, seeing everything instantly-becoming truly omnipresent.
The paradoxical revelation is that extreme speed ultimately equals perfect stillness-being everywhere at once is the same as being at rest. This circular understanding suggests that expanding consciousness could achieve the same state without physical movement.
Our bodies oscillate about seven times per second, and at each point of rest (fourteen times per second), the "observer" or consciousness momentarily expands at incredible speed into subjective space. During these brief expansions, our consciousness can travel vast distances, though normally we retain no memory of these journeys. As our ability to maintain expanded consciousness increases, we can begin remembering information received while "out of body."
The level of consciousness can be described mathematically as the ratio of subjective time to objective time-ranging from slight attention wandering to deep meditation where time appears stopped. Our reality consists of rapid oscillations between physical existence and expanded consciousness. During the brief pauses when our body comes to rest, our "observer" expands through subjective time into objective space.

The Spectrum of Consciousness: From Minerals to the Absolute
Consciousness exists in all matter to varying degrees, from atoms to humans, with each level representing different reality bands. As systems evolve to higher complexity, their consciousness increases in both quantity (the number of possible responses per stimulus) and quality (the refinement and frequency response range of these responses), with the highest level being "the absolute"-the source of all consciousness in the universe.
At the lowest level of consciousness, rocks possess only dim perceptions of hot/cold and light/dark, with minimal communication between entities. There is no growth, only attrition. Plants represent a significant consciousness leap from minerals, exhibiting growth, reproduction, and adaptation. They respond to human emotions and threats, as documented in "The Secret Life of Plants."
Animals possess broader emotional ranges, three-dimensional movement freedom, and communication abilities within and across species. Some demonstrate inventiveness and tool use, with creatures like porpoises rivaling human intelligence. Their energy-exchange curve extends both into human and plant realities.
Human consciousness uniquely can be developed to interact with the entire spectrum of realities. This is the true meaning of "consciousness expansion"-developing the cerebrospinal nervous system to tune into any reality from mineral to spiritual. Unlike drugs which merely alter consciousness by funneling it into particular levels, proper development creates stable access to higher realities.
The astral realm serves as a vast bridge connecting all "physical" realities-mineral, vegetable, animal, and human-with or without physical bodies. During sleep, Nature gives us a "preview of coming events" by allowing us to function in the astral plane, gradually preparing us for our eventual transition there.
Once a consciousness unit resolves its emotional issues, evolution guides it to the mental levels. Unlike physical reality, environments here can be created instantly through thought or desire. The mental level emphasizes balanced mind and knowledge-seeking, with love being the only permitted emotion.
After potentially thousands of life cycles, consciousness may reach the causal level where knowledge arrives effortlessly and non-linearly. Rather than piecing information together sequentially, knowledge comes in complete chunks, instantly imprinted on the mind in symbolic or diagrammatic form.
Creative insights experienced by artists, scientists, and inventors originate from momentary connections to the intuitive realm. After immersing in detailed knowledge without finding patterns, solutions suddenly arrive whole during relaxed states when the mind briefly projects into causal levels.

Our Multiple Bodies and Their Interactions
Just as our physical bodies are interference patterns of electromagnetic fields, we possess "bodies" composed of higher harmonics that interact with higher realities. These interpenetrating fields extend beyond our physical bodies, appearing as colorful, egg-shaped auras. Scientific instruments have detected these subtle energy fields extending up to several feet from the physical body, with variations in intensity and pattern corresponding to different states of consciousness and health.
The health aura, an extension of the physical body consisting of charged, ionized particles, is sharply limited on its periphery and highly sensitive to our health state. Advanced imaging techniques have revealed that this aura typically extends 4-8 inches from the skin surface and shows distinct patterns of disruption during illness. The electrostatic field measurements actually represent both the health aura and astral body, with the 4-inch limit being sensitive to vitality levels and the flat curve rising about 30% during emotional excitement. Researchers have documented these changes using kirlian photography and other specialized equipment.
Our physical and higher bodies function primarily to receive signals, process them, and respond, operating like a sophisticated multi-dimensional antenna system. Like a radio simultaneously receiving multiple stations of varying strength, our consciousness picks up different realities with the physical being loudest while astral, mental, causal, and spiritual realities are progressively weaker. Turning off the dominant physical "station" through sleep, meditation, or sensory deprivation enhances our reception of subtler frequencies. This explains why meditation practitioners often report increased intuitive abilities and heightened awareness of non-physical realms.
Sudden attraction or aversion to strangers occurs when our extended astral bodies either resonate harmoniously or create dissonance. This phenomenon explains the immediate "gut feelings" we get about certain people before any verbal interaction. Subliminal irritations on any level can manifest as physical ailments-repressed anger potentially causing cancer, anxiety producing ulcers, and chronic stress leading to autoimmune disorders. The spiritual level operates as our conscience, providing moral guidance and ethical insights. The mental level creates resonance with like-minded thinkers, explaining why we naturally gravitate toward certain groups or communities. The intuitive band provides gut feelings about outcomes, often manifesting as precognitive dreams or spontaneous insights.
The brain functions as hardware-a computer terminal processing sensory input while awake. During deep sleep, it rests completely, generating no images, allowing for cellular repair and energy restoration. However, when consciousness focuses in the astral during dreaming, information flows in, producing imagery that triggers eye and limb movements. Research has shown that these REM movements precisely correspond to the dream narrative. The brain isn't the source of thought but rather a thought amplifier, taking tiny impulses implanted by our astral, mental, or causal bodies and magnifying them into recognizable thoughts. This explains why electrical stimulation of the brain can trigger memories and sensations but cannot create original thoughts or insights.

The Universe as a Continuous Creation
Our model of the universe begins with a ball of highly compressed matter floating in protospace-a stage for the unfolding of space-time. When this cosmic egg expands, it creates not a chaotic big bang but a controlled jet of matter below escape velocity. This matter undergoes cooling, forms elementary particles, condenses into stars that eventually die and scatter heavier elements.
The jet expands, slows from gravitational pull, and mushrooms before falling back toward its source-like water from a fountain nozzle. This matter overshoots the nucleus due to inertia, then flows back toward center where opposing fronts collide and fall inward. The resulting structure forms a torus-an elongated donut constantly turning inside-out as matter flows through its core.
As matter converges and falls toward the nucleus, its density increases until gravitational collapse occurs-creating a black hole where matter becomes so compressed that even light cannot escape the steep curvature of space-time. Matter crushes itself out of existence, passing through a singularity point to reappear in a "white hole"-the opposite end where energy upwells into a new universe. Our universe emerged from such a white hole, the output of a black hole from a "past universe," creating a continuous cycle of death and rebirth.
The nucleus-a black hole/white hole pair-marks both the beginning and end of "time" in our universe. Matter that falls into the nucleus will re-emerge into a "new" universe through the white hole. From the perspective of matter passing through, it's a brand-new universe, but for outside observers, it's simply the other side of the same universe.
When radiating matter is ejected from the nucleus, it creates space-time as it propagates into protospace. This space-time becomes bent by the mass of the jet, forcing photons to follow in an envelope surrounding the jet. Light follows the curvature caused by the jet's mass and cannot penetrate the space between the central jet and the return flow envelope.
Our galaxy's position within the torus-shaped universe can be determined by the uneven distribution of galaxies. Looking outward, we observe galaxies in the northern portion of our sky running away faster than those in the southern portion, stretching our observable universe into a kidney shape. All knowledge ever generated in our universe is potentially available to us, having been discovered by civilizations ahead of us in "time."

Accessing Universal Knowledge Through Intuition
People with intuitive insights access solutions from the "universal mind," where all information is stored. Those with heightened consciousness can extend their subjective time to retrieve useful knowledge, experiencing it as simply "knowing" things others don't-from predicting phone calls to understanding cosmic truths.
While telepathy offers little advantage over technology for local communication, its true power emerges when gathering information about distant cosmic systems. Unlike astronomers who observe light from stars that may have traveled millions of years, consciousness can access information instantly across any distance. The entire universe maintains constant, immediate communication, with serious events known instantly by consciousnesses attuned to them.
Both material and non-material universes are built on modular principles. Just as atoms combine to form molecules, crystals, and eventually solar systems and galaxies, consciousnesses build into progressively larger hierarchies. Our universe mirrors the electrical fields found around seeds or eggs-structures where space-time has been condensed and stored. A seed represents its mature form (like a tree) in an altered, higher state of consciousness where time has stopped.
Electrical fields govern living organisms, as demonstrated by measuring voltage differences along a chicken egg's axis. These organizing fields penetrate and surround living tissue, guiding development-the spine of a tadpole within a frog egg aligns with this field. These electromagnetic holograms that change with time create molds that matter fills, producing tangible bodies. Our physical bodies are the end products of subtle information fields, not their source.
If matter contains consciousness, then planets and stars must be enormous beings. Like humans have both a rudimentary body-consciousness and a higher psyche, planets have two consciousness levels. The rudimentary consciousness maintains planetary functions-atmospheric circulation, ocean currents, gas balances, temperatures, energy fields-through hierarchies of nature spirits. Meanwhile, a vast higher consciousness uses the planet as temporary residence, guiding human evolution and causing environmental changes to direct development.

The Creator's Design and Our Evolutionary Purpose
When examining matter at its deepest level, we find only a void permeated by pulsating energy fields. Even the seemingly solid atomic nucleus dissolves into vortices of pulsating fields. We humans are merely four-dimensional holograms-interference patterns of waves changing with time-based on the void that connects all creation. This void is the absolute: pure consciousness combined with intelligence.
The Creator begins by separating from the infinite void, defining boundaries and becoming an individualized entity containing tremendous potential energy. To know Himself, the Creator must produce a consciousness equal to Himself, so He establishes Nature's laws and evolution to refine consciousness until it mirrors His attributes.
Starting with low-consciousness matter, He creates increasingly complex forms until intelligence emerges that can contemplate itself. He uses duality-good (knowledge of His laws) and evil (ignorance)-as a catalyst to speed evolution, building free will into more evolved creatures so they can become co-creators.
Event matrices embedded in space-time as field patterns stimulate, balance, or depress tendencies in our psyches, explaining why "history repeats itself." Eventually, consciousnesses arise that contemplate the Creator, becoming self-realized when they understand "Thou art That." These beings become co-creators and minor gods, until one consciousness emerges that equals the Creator Himself-His double-completing His self-knowledge.
The Creator works in subjective time, taking infinite leisure to design His universe, though to mortal observers it appears as a sudden "big bang." Within His light-enclosed ovoid, energy polarizes into positive and negative protomatter, creating the first duality. When sufficient potential builds at the poles, a tremendous discharge-the first "sound"-flashes across the void like lightning.
This cosmic fertilization sets protomatter flowing in patterns that seed protospace for physical matter. The thunderclap's reverberations create infinite interference patterns-the potential forms of all creation. A single droplet remains suspended between the poles, becoming the black-white hole nucleus from which all physical matter flows. This droplet contains the entire universe in condensed form, like a seed contains a tree.
The universe becomes a teaching machine whose purpose is self-knowledge, with each element containing information about the whole design-"knowledge is structured in consciousness."
