Johan Norberg is a Swedish author and historian of ideas whose work centers on globalization, free markets, and human progress. A senior fellow at the Cato Institute, he wrote In Defense of Global Capitalism, Progress, Open, and The Capitalist Manifesto. His more than 20 books have been translated into over 30 languages.
Johan Norberg was born in Stockholm in 1973 and studied the history of ideas at Stockholm University, where he earned an M.A. His intellectual turn was notable: drawn in youth to anarchism, he later concluded that classical liberalism took individual freedom more seriously. Early books on Vilhelm Moberg and the history of Swedish liberalism established him as a young writer with a strong interest in ideas, institutions, and the long arc of modernity.
