Your inner circle should be people who see your full possibility, unencumbered by your history of failures. If you want to truly excel at something, don't just publicly commit to a deadline-commit to a person who terrifies you in all the best ways. Your "Ride or Die" should be someone whose honest feedback pushes you beyond your comfort zone. The beauty of choosing the right Ride or Die is that in striving to produce work worthy of them, you establish a new high bar for yourself. Your inner circle should include: an ass-kicker who's achieved what you aspire to, someone you can mentor (the best cure for impostor syndrome), and a peer on a similar journey with whom you can celebrate and commiserate. It's an opportunity to regroup and remember why you started this bold journey and what truly matters to you. Jordan Harbinger, host of a podcast downloaded by fifteen million people monthly, began as a Wall Street lawyer. He noticed his boss Dave rarely came to the office, instead attending charity events and playing squash while still closing million-dollar deals. This revelation sparked Jordan's interest in social psychology and networking, accidentally launching him into podcasting. Despite his success interviewing stars like Kobe Bryant and Neil deGrasse Tyson, Jordan faced pressure to do more-create courses, host events, write books. Yet these same big-name guests confessed their promotional hustle meant missing family time and not necessarily earning more. For years, she'd rushed from one achievement to the next without recognizing the exhaustion this pace created. The pandemic forced her to stop and confront life's essentials when she could no longer race through airports with her metaphorical suitcase of achievements. Without constantly earning new trophies, she barely recognized herself. We live in a constantly connected, always-on world that's making us sick. Our smartphone addiction and obsession with productivity stems from the misguided belief that constant hustle creates better work. Yet our best ideas often come when we stop-in the shower, on a run, or during quiet moments. Vinh Giang discovered this when his magic career took him away from his family for a hundred gigs per year. Despite success, he fell into depression until his father reminded him: "A king who knows the limits to his desires will rule an entire lifetime." This prompted Vinh to build a virtual business and move home to Australia, realizing that success shouldn't require endless sacrifice. The point of "making it" is to actually enjoy what you've made-asking not how much you could get, but how much is enough. The hedonic treadmill traps us in an endless cycle: as we make more money, we want more things, expecting them to bring happiness-but they never do. Breaking free means changing your measure of success from "how much you have" to "how many you can help."

Everyone wants to leave the fairway a winner, but the Whack-A-Mole Game is relentless. As soon as you fix one problem, another appears. The bigger your life, ego, and vision, the more distractions arise, faster than you can swat them away. Only by continuously fine-tuning your priorities to reflect what truly matters can you produce your best work and find stability amid the insanity. Melissa Wiggins found herself giving birth to twins while her husband was with their twenty-month-old son Cannon during his first chemotherapy treatment. Just two weeks earlier, she'd noticed him limping, leading to a stage IV cancer diagnosis with tumors throughout his body. Determined to give her son's story a different ending, Melissa shut down her business to focus on Cannon's care. Through this journey, she discovered many families facing similar overwhelming challenges. This led her to create the Cannonball Kids' cancer Foundation, which has delivered over $3 million in innovative funding for pediatric cancer research. But her all-consuming dedication took a toll-"I went too hard for a lot of years"-until she hit burnout. Eventually, she learned to determine which responsibilities were truly hers and which could be delegated, allowing her to refocus on what mattered most: her family and occasionally herself. When we say "I'm too busy" for something, what we're really saying is "it's not that important to me." We overfill our plates from external pressure, self-worth tied to busyness, or simply following the crowd. The "Toxic Positivity Army" falsely promises we can do it all, but that's nonsense. The truth is that when you genuinely want something, you miraculously find time for it. Contrary to productivity experts who advise "eating the frog first" (tackling the worst task immediately), entrepreneur Clay Hebert advocates for the "Perfect Calendar"-designing your schedule around when you're at your best for different activities.
