Jessica Tarahata Hagedorn è la celebre autrice filippino-americana di Dogeaters e una voce pionieristica nella letteratura postcoloniale e asiatica-americana. Nata nel 1949 a Manila e trasferitasi a San Francisco nella prima adolescenza, l'opera di Hagedorn esplora il colonialismo, l'identità culturale, il consumismo e la corruzione politica attraverso la narrativa sperimentale e lo storytelling multimediale. Dogeaters (1990) è un romanzo postmoderno che critica le Filippine sotto Ferdinand Marcos attraverso molteplici narrazioni interconnesse che fondono poesia, finzione e cultura popolare.

Oltre a Dogeaters, Hagedorn ha scritto The Gangster of Love, Dream Jungle e Toxicology, e ha curato antologie rivoluzionarie come Charlie Chan Is Dead e Manila Noir.
