Michael Pollan is an American author and journalist known for his influential books on food, agriculture, and psychoactive plants, including The Omnivore’s Dilemma, In Defense of Food, The Botany of Desire, and How to Change Your Mind. A longtime New York Times Magazine contributor, Pollan’s works have won major awards and achieved bestseller status worldwide.
Michael Pollan, born in 1955 on Long Island to a family of writers, emerged as one of the most influential voices on food, nature, and society in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. The son of author Stephen Pollan and columnist Corky Pollan, Michael grew up immersed in language and storytelling. He studied English at Bennington College and Mansfield College, Oxford, before earning an M.A. from Columbia University, which laid the foundation for his lucid, probing prose.
