L'intérieur du fort révèle une grande complexité architecturale, comprenant des systèmes d'escaliers en forme de X et des chambres cachées directement dans l'épaisseur des murs, servant probablement de centre de pouvoir tribal et de protection pour le bétail.
L'Ogham est le premier alphabet irlandais, utilisé principalement entre le 4e et le 7e siècle. Il se présente sous la forme d'encoches gravées sur des piliers de pierre, ressemblant à des codes-barres géants. Ces inscriptions servaient généralement à marquer des limites de territoires ou à commémorer des défunts. Sur certains sites comme Kilmalkedar, on peut observer la transition culturelle de l'Irlande, car des croix chrétiennes ont parfois été ajoutées plus tard sur ces mêmes pierres druidiques.
