Frederick McCarthy Forsyth (1938–2025) était l'auteur britannique à succès de Chacal (The Day of the Jackal) et un maître du genre du thriller politique, dont le passé de journaliste a révolutionné la fiction d'espionnage.

Ancien pilote de la RAF et correspondant étranger pour Reuters et la BBC, Forsyth a apporté une authenticité inégalée à ses thrillers d'espionnage, s'appuyant sur ses expériences réelles lors de la couverture de conflits comme la guerre du Biafra et sur ses liens présumés avec le MI6.
