Gilles Louis René Deleuze (1925–1995) était un philosophe français et co-auteur de Mille Plateaux, l'une des œuvres les plus influentes de la philosophie politique postmoderne et de la théorie critique. Écrit avec le psychanalyste radical Félix Guattari, Mille Plateaux constitue le second volume de leur série révolutionnaire Capitalisme et schizophrénie, remettant en question les récits conventionnels à travers des concepts innovants tels que la multiplicité, le devenir et la pensée rhizomatique, qui font le pont entre la philosophie, la psychologie et la critique sociale.

Deleuze a enseigné à l'Université Paris VIII de 1969 jusqu'à sa retraite en 1987, où il était réputé pour être un conférencier captivant et un penseur original.

Avant sa collaboration avec Guattari, il a rédigé son magnum opus Différence et répétition (1968) ainsi que des études influentes revitalisant l'intérêt pour Nietzsche, Spinoza, Hume et Bergson. Se définissant lui-même comme un « métaphysicien pur », Deleuze a écrit plus de vingt-cinq livres — tous sauf un sont désormais traduits en anglais — façonnant profondément la philosophie contemporaine, la théorie littéraire, les études cinématographiques et la pensée post-structuraliste à travers les sciences humaines dans le monde entier.
