Gabrielle Bernstein’s career took shape at the intersection of spirituality, performance, and recovery. She has described herself as a spiritual seeker from childhood, recalling meditation with her mother in an upstate New York ashram and a teenage practice built partly to cope with anxiety and depression. After earning a BFA in theater from Syracuse University in 2001, she moved into early professional life in New York, but her twenties also brought addiction. In her own account, the defining turning point came on October 2, 2005, when she got sober and began rebuilding her life around spiritual study, service, and communication.
