The Norman Conquest was the ultimate 'extreme makeover' for an entire country, where the old Anglo-Saxon ways were torn down and replaced by a strict, stone-built Norman system.
How William the conqueror normanised England. High yr7 standard

The conflict began with a broken promise. In 1064, Harold Godwinson swore a holy oath to support William of Normandy’s claim to the English throne. However, following the death of King Edward the Confessor in 1066, Harold had himself crowned king immediately. William viewed this as a betrayal of a sacred vow, labeling Harold a perjurer and a usurper, which served as the spark for the Norman Conquest.
The Norman Conquest acted as an extreme makeover for the country, replacing old Anglo-Saxon ways with a strict Norman system. William the Conqueror used more than just military force; he implemented a massive construction project of stone castles and a radical redesign of the law. This process, often called Normanisation, completely transformed England's language, architecture, and social hierarchy, moving away from the traditional wooden halls of the past.
To ensure his victory was permanent, William the Conqueror utilized administrative and architectural tools alongside his army. He initiated a terrifyingly detailed survey of the land’s resources, including every cow and pig, to establish total economic control. Additionally, he replaced the existing social structure with a stone-built Norman system and enforced a new legal framework, ensuring that the Anglo-Saxon influence was systematically replaced by Norman rule.
