In der Physik der Raumfahrt wird dieser Zustand oft als ein physikalischer Trick beschrieben: Man muss so schnell sein, dass man quasi um die Erde herumfällt. Nur durch diese enorme Wucht wird verhindert, dass die tonnenschweren Satelliten von der Erdanziehung direkt nach unten gezogen werden und als Metallschrott auf den Boden stürzen.
