You’re sovereign as long as you don't need anything from anyone else. But the moment you’re part of a globalized economy, your sovereignty is tied to your bank account.
Why countries able to sanction each other? I seen US sanction India from buying russian oil...why do sanctions made and legally valid....what if not followed.

Economic sanctions are commercial and financial penalties applied by one or more countries against a targeted self-governing state, group, or individual. They are used as a tool of geopolitics to influence behavior, protect national security interests, or respond to violations of international law. By implementing trade restrictions, such as those seen with Russian oil, countries aim to exert pressure without resorting to direct military conflict.
The legality of sanctions often depends on their source and justification. While the UN Security Council can impose globally binding sanctions, individual nations like the US also implement domestic laws to restrict trade. These measures are generally considered legally valid within the enforcing country's jurisdiction. In the context of international law, they are often framed as necessary responses to threats against global peace or specific treaty violations.
When a country or entity ignores sanction enforcement, they face significant risks, including secondary sanctions. For example, if a nation continues buying Russian oil despite US restrictions, the US may cut off that nation's access to the American financial system or seize assets. This creates a powerful deterrent, as most global trade relies on access to major currencies and international banking networks that the enforcing countries control.
